For over a decade now, we’ve hosted physician education courses for urologists in Latin America. What started with one or two annual trainings has flourished to more than 20 courses per year. We’re excited for 2016, and expect more than 100 healthcare professionals to continue their education at one of our Cook Vista® courses.
While the specifics may vary by location and topic, all of our Latin American Vista courses have some common elements and a common objective: to give physicians the opportunity to learn about Cook products and urological techniques from experienced facilitators while working side-by-side with their peers. Each course draws urologists from multiple countries, which allows attendees to experience different perspectives from across the region. The courses are led by renowned physicians and may include hands-on product training, animal labs, presentations from subject matter experts, case discussions, and live surgery observation.
“Vista attendees learn not only from their instructors but also from their fellow attendees, who have diverse experiences to share.” – Federico Lewi, Cook Sales & Marketing Manager,
Latin America
Vista reference centres
The majority of our Vista programmes are held at regional reference centres—highly respected hospitals or medical institutions with top-notch faculty. Each of these reference centres hosts four courses per year, focusing on Cook products and techniques related to a specific procedure or family of procedures, such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), semi-rigid ureteroscopy (URS), or laser technology. The courses last a day and a half and are intimate in size (limited to four participants) to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to practise and ask questions. Currently we have reference centres in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. And we plan to add additional locations to meet the growing need for physician education.
Vista hands-on training
Cook’s oldest urology education programme in Latin America began as an annual hands-on training in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is now in its 10th year and has expanded to serve an international audience. The 12 participants in each course spend one day in a pig lab using Cook products, and one day observing and working with patients. Participants rotate through stations as they learn from subject matter experts and enhance their product knowledge and skills. In 2015, we added a second hands-on location in Chile to expand our reach to even more physicians.
