Warwickshire — Cook Medical, a world leader in the development of advanced endovascular devices treating aortic disease, has sponsored a medical education programme created and administered by the British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET) to train British physicians in advanced endovascular techniques. Three vascular surgeons and radiologists in the U.K. will receive the BSET fellowship awards at the Society’s annual meeting on the 30th of June and 1st of July. This year, the successful applicants and their training centres are: Mr Ian Nordon at St George’s, London; Mr Michael Delbridge at Manchester Royal Infirmary; and Mr Robert Davies at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
The fellows in waiting will work alongside well reputed vascular surgeons at specialised centres of excellence to develop their skills in a broad range of minimally invasive medical techniques, including endovascular aortic repair (EVAR).
Secretary of BSET and Professor of vascular surgery at St George’s Hospital, Matt Thompson, underlined the significance of the fellowships:
“These fellowships provide a dedicated training opportunity for endovascular trainees to acquire fundamental endovascular skills that will be essential to their consultant practice.”

The two-day BSET Annual Meeting, held at Walton Hall, Warwickshire, will provide a unique opportunity for experts from a range of disciplines to exchange ideas and discuss leading edge technology in endovascular therapy. The aim is to raise the profile of endovascular techniques, facilitate access to key information among physicians and, ultimately, to improve the availability of endovascular treatments to patients suffering from arterial and venous disease. The programme for the event addresses a range of topics including: future technological developments in EVAR/TEVAR, endovascular management of acute Type B dissection, lower limb revascularization, EVAR reporting standards, and results of fenestrated stent-grafts.
In addition to these discussions, there will be a series of abstract presentations, clinical trial updates, debates and guest lectures from internationally recognised experts.
