From 22-25 September, interventional radiologists from around the world will descend on Lisbon, Portugal, for CIRSE 2018.
This year’s focus is on empowering the next generation of IRs. Cook Medical has several events that will appeal to both new physicians as well as seasoned physicians looking to share best practices.
EndoWars: Take the Endovascular SFA Challenge
From Saturday, 22 September, to Monday, 24 September, fellows are invited to participate in EndoWars, a simulator competition testing participants’ ability to successfully place a Zilver® PTX® stent in the SFA in the shortest amount of time. The competition is open from 11:30-16:00 Saturday-Monday. Fellows should register at the Cook booth.
Dr. Fabrizio Fanelli, professor of radiology and director of the vascular and interventional radiology department at Careggi University Hospital in Florence, Italy, will introduce EndoWars and take the challenge at 11:30, 22 September. Fellows will then work to beat his time. The top 10 challengers will be invited to meet with Cook Medical’s training team at a dinner attended by Dr. Fanelli on Monday evening.
Meet the Experts
CIRSE attendees are invited to hear experts speak about venous embolisation and chronic venous obstruction. Attendees can ask questions, share ideas, and network in an informal setting.

Dr. Previn Diwakar, from The Whiteley Clinic in London, will discuss “Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, our approach in The Whiteley Clinic.”
Monday, 24 September, 10:00-10:45
Drs. Gerry O’Sullivan of Galway University Hospitals in Ireland and Rick de Graaf from Klinikum Friedrichshafen in Germany will discuss “Treatment of patients with chronic venous obstructions, our approach.”
PAD Lunch Symposium
During a lunch symposium on Monday, 24 September, at 13:00 in Auditorium 1, some of the world’s leading endovascular physicians will discuss “Treating PAD in the SFA: Challenge the status quo.” Prof. Michael Dake, Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, California, USA, will serve as moderator.
Prof. Erwin Blessing, SRH Klinikum, Karlsbad-Langensteinbach, Germany, will kick off the discussions by introducing the XPEDITE study and the future of drug-eluting stents. Dr. Marc Bosiers, Flanders Medical Research Program, Hamme, Belgium, will examine the first look at 6-month results of the ZILVERPASS study. In addition, Dr. Koen Deloose, AZ Sint-Blasius, Dendermonde, Belgium, will discuss how Zilver PTX pairs well with balloons. And, finally, Prof. Dake will use data to help you plan your 2018 treatment algorithm.
