In this series we meet members of the Endoscopy team from different regions around Europe. This month we talk to Dick, our Regional Manager for Benelux.
1.What is your current position with Cook Medical and how long have you been in this position?
I started as the Regional Manager for Scandinavia and Benelux 6 years ago. I am now the Regional Manager for Benelux for the past 2 and a half years.
2. What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day in the field would find me with one of our sales representatives, visiting procedures or physicians and working alongside them. In addition to this I spend a lot of time with physicians on a one on one basis and also with purchasing groups.
3. What, in your opinion, makes Cook Medical a unique company?
Cook Medical is unique in the fact that it is still a privately owned company with a sustained culture. We have still maintained the culture that Bill Cook strived for. Health care and patients and our healthcare customers are the focus! And more importantly we live by that mantra…
4. What about Cook Medical makes you most proud?
It makes me proud to be part of the unique spirit within Cook.
5. We are constantly striving to be innovative in Cook Medical. Tell me how you see this in action in the field.
The innovation on a product perspective is unquestionable. As the world around us changes, we have to change as well. Economics and healthcare economics are becoming more and more important. In the current landscape hospitals are facing challenging financial situations. I see Cook addressing this by starting e-commerce, cost-saving programs etc. This is well appreciated by customers and builds long-term relationships.
6. What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I’m not working I like to spend my time playing golf, I find it enjoyable to be outside and it helps to clear my head. Furthermore, I have a passion for making pastry and often indulge in making cakes at the weekend for birthdays and other occasions. I also enjoy reading a book, mostly thrillers and some management literature.

1. Wat is uw huidige functie bij Cook Medical en hoe lang werkt u al in deze functie?
Ik ben 6 jaar geleden begonnen als de Regional Manager voor Scandinavië en de Benelux. Ik ben nu al tweeënhalf jaar de Regional Manager voor de Benelux.
2. Hoe ziet een gewone werkdag er uit bij u?
Op een gewone werkdag in het veld ben ik te vinden bij een van onze verkoopvertegenwoordigers, bezoek ik procedures of artsen en werk ik met artsen samen. Daarnaast besteed ik veel tijd aan een-op-een contact met artsen, en ook met inkoopgroepen.
3. Wat maakt Cook Medical volgens u tot een uniek bedrijf?
Wat Cook Medical uniek maakt is het feit dat het bedrijf nog steeds in private handen is en dat het een bestendige cultuur heeft. We hebben weten vast te houden aan de cultuur waar Bill Cook naar streefde. Gezondheidszorg, patiënten en onze zorgklanten – daar ligt de focus! En nog belangrijker: wij leven naar die mantra…
4. Waar bent u het meest trots op bij Cook Medical?
Ik ben er trots op dat ik deel uitmaak van het unieke elan binnen Cook.
5. We streven er bij Cook Medical constant naar om innovatief te zijn. Hoe zit u dit in de praktijk terug in het veld?
De innovatie wat betreft producten is onbetwistbaar. De wereld om ons heen verandert en wij moeten ook veranderen. Economische belangen worden steeds belangrijker, ook in de gezondheidszorg. In het huidige landschap worden ziekenhuizen geconfronteerd met uitdagende financiële situaties. Ik zie dat Cook hierop inspeelt door te beginnen met e-commerce, programma’s voor kostenbesparing, enzovoort. Dit wordt zeer gewaardeerd door klanten en het zorgt voor langdurige relaties.
6. Wat doet u graag als u niet aan het werk bent?
Als ik niet aan het werk ben, speel ik graag golf. Ik vind het prettig om buiten te zijn en het helpt me om mijn hoofd leeg te maken. Verder heb ik een passie voor het maken van gebak en vaak bak ik in het weekend taart voor verjaardagen en andere gelegenheden. Ook lees ik graag boeken, vooral thrillers en managementliteratuur.
